Five Luxury Boutique Hotels in Barcelona

Written by Christopher A.8 years ago

My favorite home away from home is a unique, luxury boutique hotel with a sense of intimacy and a tasty breakfast. Barcelona is not only about beaches and Gaudí, but also home to a handful of exciting and up-and-coming luxury Boutique hotels. Follow me as I guide you through my five favorites.

Hotel Neri Barcelona — Located in a former aristocratic house dating back to the 12th century, old meets new in a perfect balance. (Photos courtesy of Hotel Neri)

Hotel Neri

Positioned right in the middle of the Gothic quarter, pretty much smack on next to the charming Santa Eulalia cathedral, Hotel Neri is located in a historical building, dating back to the 12th century. The Hotel retains the buildings heritage, but also enhances it with a modern and stylish interior design centered around a array of oak and textiles in its 22 rooms. Hotel Neri is without a doubt one of Barcelona’s most intimate and chic boutique hotels with top notch service and style. The lack of a pool is made up by their charming and hidden away rooftop teak decked terrace, which is the perfect place to start off your day with a fresh cup of coffee.

Hotel Cotton House Barcelona — Dark colors and earthy materials combined with the characteristics of cotton creates a unique appearance. (Photos courtesy of Cotton House Hotel)

Cotton House Hotel

The Cotton House Hotel is new for 2015 and already creating buzz around town. Located on Gran Via in a former Cotton Textile Foundation, the building is an emblematic 19th-century neoclassical marvel. The original elements of the building have been retained, such as the famous spiral staircase built in 1957, the delicate parquet and boiserie embellishing ceilings, along with floors and walls in some of the 83 rooms (I recommend you ask for one of those when you book). The end result is a contemporary and sophisticated look, combined with luxury and personalized service. Along with the usual amenities, the Cotton House Hotel also comes with a outdoor pool, terrace, 24-hour room service, concierge and Valet service and even a butler in some of the suites. All in all, Cotton House is a experience on its own which will appeal to anyone who appreciates elegance and fine details.

Mercer Hotel Barcelona — Ancient roman walls meets modern luxury. The rooftop terrace is the perfect place for summer evenings. (Photos courtesy of Mercer Hotel Barcelona)

Mercer Hotel

Much like Hotel Neri, the Mercer Hotel is located in a historic building in the Gothic area, it even incorporates part of the original Roman wall that surrounded the ancient city of Barcino. The Hotel’s exclusive 28 rooms have been tastefully decorated with an homage to the location’s historical significance. Exposed wooden beams plays delightfully with stone walls and exclusive fabrics. The inner courtyard even features Orange trees and is the perfect place to have your breakfast in the morning. And if you stay in the The Grand Suite, which is over 150 square meters, you get your very own orange tree. Mercer also comes with a large rooftop terrace where you can take a refreshing dip in the pool under the burning Mediterranean sun as you overlook the historic and ancient rooftops of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter. And for foodies, make sure you pay a visit to restaurateur Giuseppe Iannotti’s celebrated Kresios Barcelona gourmet restaurant on the ground floor.
